H.I.G.H. Day Code of Conduct

Homeschooled children need the occasion to learn proper group behavior and submission to authority. HIGH Day provides this opportunity. Adults and children alike, please read carefully the following guidelines.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES:
* As a Christian Homeschool Group we hold to biblical standards of behavior in order to bring honor to Christ’s name.
* High Day should be a fun, non-threatening and positive learning experience.

RESPECT FOR PROPERTY:
* Remember: We are guests in the facility.
* Please follow boundary guidelines posted & don’t run in the halls.
* Everyone, adults and children: Leave each room cleaner than when you came.
* When your family arrives in the morning, please procede directly to the HIGH Day (Fellowship) Hall. No students should be roaming the building before class time.

RESPECT FOR OTHERS:
* Listen to and obey ALL adults the first time without arguing. It is the expectation that all children participate. (If there is a legitimate reason not to be involved, respectfully ask the adult to discuss this. This will be rare.)
* Please listen when your classmates are speaking and wait for your turn to speak.
* Show kindness with your words and your actions (no unkind words, no unkind actions)
* Participate in all activities planned. (Parent should inform teacher ahead of time of exceptions.)

DISCIPLINE FOR INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR:
* When excitement has caused some to get out of control, the helper will count to five to give an opportunity for students to regain orderliness.
* If there is wrong behavior, the helper will speak quietly and privately to the child, explaining the problem and warning him/her of the consequence.
* For continued wrong behavior, the child will be given time out away from the other children. Before rejoining the group, the child will agree to change behavior. (i.e., "I will not pinch anymore.").
* If inappropriate behavior persists, the child will be taken by the helper to his/her parent. The adult will explain briefly to the parent what the problem was but save longer discussion for after HIGH Day or during a shared free period so as to get back to the responsibility of the classroom. (Note: It is the parent’s responsibility to seek out the appropriate teacher if necessary, to clarify the nature of the problem that occurred.)
* If the behavior persists, the child will be asked to miss that period at HIGH Day for a week or more at the discretion of the parent and the teacher. The child will remain with the parent during that period in following week(s). In order to re-enter the class an apology to the teacher will be expected.
* Children attending HIGH Day without a parent must have a designated “parent for the day.” That parent is responsible for supervising the child’s behavior and responding to classroom problems.
* HIGH Day is a privilege. Those who continue in chronic bad behavior may, at the discretion of the Leadership Team, be asked not to return.

(Note to parents: While it may be inconvenient to have your child brought to you during class, it is important as we work together to train our children.)

SPECIAL NOTE FOR OLDER KIDS:
You enjoy seeing your friends at HIGH Day. To make it a great experience for all please remember:
* Be on time for your next class. Don’t hang out in the halls.
* Act respectfully to all adults and students.
* Cliques hurt others. Don’t exclude anyone or act in a “snobby” manner.

TEACHERS AND HELPERS: (See TEACHER AND HELPER DUTIES.)
* Ask children to raise their hands and speak in turn.
* Expect respect and obedience.
* Learn the procedure for discipline and follow it consistently.
* Helpers should focus on classroom management. Do not distract the class by chatting or arriving late.
